However, I was specifically asked by Tom Stellard (see http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/llvmdev/2014-November/078763.html) to open an issue for this if I felt this issue blocks bug 15732 (that CMake was a good enough replacement for Autotools.)
