First, let me thank everyone for building LMMS! I'd been using it on and off
for over a year now I think and I've really enjoyed it! If only there was more
time in the week to use it…
Anyway, I've just gotten a new mid-2011 MBA and struggled at first to find an
easy way to install LMMS. (I'll admit that I didn't even think of trying to
build from source at first as I figured the lack of an official built meant it
might be pretty hard to do.) Shortly, t tried the existing MacPort install,
but it was still at 0.4.08, plus zynsubaddfx wasn't included in the build and
it turned out a number of my songs used that plugin.
So, I've spent a little time and ended up submitting ticket 30630 over at the
MacPorts site in a bid to get LMMS updated to 0.4.12 and get zynsubaddfx
included. While I'm not sure everything is quite 100% working, initial
results look good to me as at least a few more of my songs will now load
without error.
I should state that I punted on using the included flak source in the LMMS
distribution. Instead, I'm linking against the MacPorts build of flak 1.3.0.
Would any one expect this to be a problem?
Anyway, only after seeing how little really needed changing and how simple the
MacPort build is, did I realise I could have built this directly. I think it
really does a dis-service to LMMS to not mention the Mac on the website. I
think you should at least add a mention to the site that LMMS is available on
the Mac from MacPorts.
