I like the idea of per-note customizations, however I would still like the
"drum pad" or "sfx/transistion pad" idea to be a separate enhancement where
a small amount of notes (i.e. an octave) are in a standard midi drum pad
arrangement where a dedicated instrument plays each note (i.e. Kicker for
kick drum, AFP for HH, Zyn for snare, etc).

The reason I mention this is because this sounds like you want to keep a
single instance of the AFP instrument to load multiple samples whereas I
believe this concept would be much more usable in a drum-pad layout where
each sample is played through a separate AFP instance.

I hope that isn't too off topic for what you are describing, I just wanted
to sidebar and mention the multiple samples idea usage and how I believe it
would benefit the DAW the most.
