As far as the PPAs, we are pretty much covered between Israel's PPA and the
KXStudio PPA but these steps, including packaging for DEB, packaging for
PPA, file association, etc... I don't think are well defined on any of our
wikis.
What we could really benefit from is some step-by-step instructions for DEB
packaging so that a community member such as myself could script it onto
our release steps. It is quite unfortunate that our Linux a community
often has to wait longer than users of the proprietary varieties. Building
from source is a splendid option, but it is quite lengthy. I would like to
see a method which flows better into our release cycle, and a DEB download
may do that.
If you have the skills necessary to script some of the file association
stuff, perhaps we can add it to the `make install` script for Debian
flavors? Or find a way to bundle it properly into the deb.
I know many have done this before including our own developers, but some
simple instructions published to our wiki could help make it part of our
permanent build script/ release cycle / or wherever it fits.
