I like tracking these things in bug reports personally since the markdown
is easier to type than in email messages and the mockups are hosted on
github rather than filed away in an email archive.
I hate to describe other DAWs, but the drum sample in Ableton is very
simple and effective and IIRC, it uses it's default sampler instrument for
each individual sample but IIRC, it also can allow other instrument types.
