Hello everyone and happy new year!

My name is Daniel Darias, I'm computer science student from Spain. I've been playing around with Ardour since a couple of months ago and now I decided to test lmms. I don't think I need to state that the program is truly powerful, and I want to thank you all for creating this. However, I think there are some usability issues which I could try to fix.

Playing around in the 'Song Editor', I haven't mannaged to find a propper way to split a "Instrument track block", something like a razor tool that allows you to subdivide the block instead of making copies and reducing each one it manually in the piano roll.

I checked the documentation and haven't found a propper way to do this. Also checked the github issues and found some references to this problem so I assummed the program lacks this functionlity. So my intention is to fix this creating something like a new `EditMode` in the `SongEditor` which allows you to cut the block, possibly snaping the cursor to the grid. If this issue doesn't exist at all I would also like to contribute fixing something with similar complexity.

I already downloaded the sources, set up the development environment with Qtcreator and started to read the code. Also I checked your wiki on github. I am experienced in both Qt and C++ so I have some confidence I can accomplish this task. However, this is the first time I decided to contribute to a FOSS project, first time on a mailing list and this is not my main language, so I ask you for some guidance to follow the correct process for this. I assume the next step is to create an issue on github with the info above and identify the relevant files and structures I need to modify.

Best regards

Daniel
