Yeah, the slimmer they are the faster they are. I've often considered making them slimmer, but there's nothing to fill the space with, it'd just be grey background, so I never bothered. Where it would make a lot of sense is if we ever make our mixer strips (and the whole mixing engine) truly multi-channel (more than stereo). Ever seem how slim Ardour's meters are? Like one pixel wide. That's because up to something like 32 channels can be shown on one strip ! Recall I mentioned I've been slowly working on compact CIRCULAR meters. These would surround any circular knobs and make a very nice compact mixer or control surface. There are... minor conceptual problems though. Like how to arrange a stereo meter - the outer 'ring' would be slightly longer than the inner ring. One idea is to make them opposing - they 'start' lighting at each end and travel towards the top middle Or vice versa, they start at the top middle and travel outwards.
