I can see why you say that Jens but it's not true. Whilst I agree that
"wave track" is slightly misleading as many people, rightfully, associate
the word wave with .wav files in audio production when MusE's audio tracks
could also be using FLAC or OGG etc, a MIDI file is not an audio file and
nor is a .med. It is generally accepted in music technology and audio
production that when you refer to an audio track you are referring to
something thats not a MIDI track and involves sampled sound. .med files are
neither - they are project files. Conversely a MIDI track may trigger
samples but the tracks data primarily is MIDI data and this doesn't involve
samples. I would like to see MusE adopt 'audio tracks' instead of 'wave
tracks' to fit in with the terminology used by every other DAW out there.
This little rant on nomenclature and terminology has reminded me of
something that has irked me since I first tried MusE but I've kept bottled
up all these years. .med files! Who decided we should use the .med
extension? They clearly didn't know much about trackers as they would've
known .med clashes with OctaMED files! D'oh!
So, lovely MusE devs - please! If we need to make any big change to MusE
project file format lets give the project files a different extension that
isn't used by another file format and especially not a music-related one!
