Consensus seems to be that while this may be a valuable improvement, the main
ODP I/O development focus is on the driver model that should provide much
better overall performance, so no one in the main ODP development team is
currently looking at this.
If you'd like to submit a patch for these improvements they would be reviewed
for acceptance, however.
