Thanks for the answer, I am using the NDC solution right now. I always 
imagined that the thread ID actually (should) contains some part of 
the process ID, like PID:TID (anyway is returned by a apr call so apr 
has the blame).

OFFTOPIC: please please someone remove my double subscription from 
log4cxx-user and log4cxx-dev, I receive 2 messages for each message 
on those lists. I already written about it on the -owner address and 
got no reply, there is a bug with the mail list system that once you 
manage to double subscribe (I wasnt sure if I was subscribed already) 
you cannot get rid of it (details provided in the -owner mail I sent)
