Just looking through the performance package of Log4j, it occurs to me that some of this could be automated slightly more by using my benchmarking framework JBench - http://www.pobox.com/~skeet/java/jbench If developers are interested in using it, I'm more than happy to help out. Of course, to build the tests you'd probably need to distribute JBench as well.
