What if we deprecated SocketAppender and provided an XMLSocketAppender (for use with an XMLSocketReceiver) in its place?

I have not tested this but serialized logging events might perform significantly better than XMLized events, especially after we apply the serialization optimizations that have been suggested on this list.


Note that JMSAppender also uses serialization.
