Before filing a bug report, you should have at least a suspicion that there is a bug in the code and provide enough information for the developers to have a chance to find it. We are good, but we are not psychic. log4j would not automatically look for log4config.xml (it looks for log4j.xml), so if you were reading log4config.xml, so someone was telling it to look in a non-default location.
