Yeah, Chainsaw sat dormant for about 3 or 4 years, thus the lack of
generics. I've put a lot of cycles into Chainsaw recently, the guts are
pretty similar but there are a ton of new features...screen video here (I
gotta say, annotation is a really handy feature):
http://people.apache.org/~sdeboy/chainsawdemo.avi

Chainsaw does depend on a recent 'core log4j' release (1.2.16), and
receivers and extras have changes that Chainsaw depends upon. Everything is
clean rat-wise, so I think we're pretty much ready to cut release
candidates.

My preference would be to get Chainsaw + companions out the door asap,
voting on everything at the same time would work for me.

One thing I would like to do is add some updated screen shots, maybe even
the screen video on the Chainsaw page (not sure where things like that
should go..they seem too big to add to svn for the dev checkout).

We have to decide what to do about the ZeroConf companion. Now that the
latest release of log4j includes network-based appenders which have zeroconf
built-in, via reflection, the zeroconf companion is redundant. Not
critical, but something we need to take care of.

I actually don't have a pgp signature on file here, so I don't think I can
cut release candidates myself without going through some hoops, so I've been
relying on Curt's free time, but I should probably just figure out what I
need to do to cut the release candidates myself...
