Now when you say fail, do you mean like it didn't pass the vote? Because
due to Nexus issues in the past, I've generally had to do the
release:perform step several times before it successfully uploaded
everything. Plus, there were historical issues with the log4j-bom module
that had to be fixed post hoc which is no longer an issue.

Also, in my experience, I've found the maven-release-plugin support for git
to be rather lacking, though I hadn't overridden the default plugin
versions on anything. We may need to do that.
