Benjamin Jaton commented on LOG4J2-435:
---------------------------------------

I think in theory the most complex situation is the RoutingAppender with
something like:
{code}
  "fileName" : "${ctx:logFile}",
  "filePattern" : "${ctx:archiveFile}-%i"
{code}
In that scenario, the user can then log anywhere, on any disk.
This makes it impossible to retrieve the old log files after the rolling has
happened.
I wonder if Logback allows this kind of configuration (?)

> DefaultRolloverStrategy max attribute only applies if you have a %i in the
> file pattern. This request is to enhance DefaultRolloverStrategy or another
> appropriate component to allow a max number of files limit to apply across
> days/months/years when a filePattern includes a date pattern.
