Matt Sicker commented on LOG4J2-1824:
-------------------------------------
An unrolled Producer method would certainly allow for them to support it. I
haven't gotten any response yet on my original ticket. I wonder how their
community process is over there and if we can contribute the updates. Being
able to rapidly send Kafka messages is a pretty useful use case for Kafka, so
reducing or eliminating garbage in the producer seems like a logical feature to
include.

> Due to API limitations in kafka-clients, log messages must be encoded into
> byte arrays rather than directly into ByteBuffers via
> {{Encoder<LogEvent>}}-enhanced layouts. I've opened up KAFKA-4802 to get
> support on the client side for not converting the provided ByteBuffers back
> into a byte array, but in the meantime, KafkaAppender and KafkaManager can be
> enhanced to use the Encoder API.
