As I worte some time before, I have a downloaded a DailyRollingFileAppenderExt from
... and changed it, so that it can roll over filesize AND over time (as
CompositeFileAppender does) with the diference that it does not rename any files
(which causes problems sometimes) but does always log to a file with the date in it,
so it never renames but logs everyday to a different file, if it doesn't exist it's
beeing created.
This Version only works with a little modification in the setFile() method of
FileAppender.

I asked the original author of DailyRollingFileAppenderExt if I can share it with the
log4j-community and he has nothing against it.
In the Attachment you will find my modified Versions of DailyRollingFileAppenderExt
and FileAppender.

Carsten

You've convinced me. Originally we suspected it was a quirk of AIX but as
you rightly pointed out it is cross platform - I stand corrected.

Top marks to Ceki for acknowledging a fix, v1.3 just keeps getting better...

Tim.
