Infact, I changed as per the package structure of RollingFileAppender class in the latest version 1.3 alpha 6. (org.apache.log4j.rolling.RollingFileAppender).

The RollingFileAppender in the o.a.l.rolling package can only be configured using the JoranConfigurator; that is, via log4j.xml, using the examples I provided.
