i just want to correct this for anyone reading this thread later: - triggeringLevel was an addition i wrote myself (as part of my authentificating SMTPAppender). it is not available in the standard SMTPAppender - in standard SMTP appender you can set the class name of the "EvaluatorClass" - the default for EvaluatorClass is a Class triggering if the Level is ERROR or higher
