I was interested in what "log4j extras companion" is, so I tried
clicking the web-site referenced in this post:

But it returns "Your requested host "people.apache.org" could not be
resolved by DNS." Is this a special site with restricted
availability?
Thanks much.
people.apache.org should be generally accessible. Basically, it is
home for things published by individuals at the ASF: committer info,
personal blogs, etc. Anything at people.apache.org does not imply
endorsement by the ASF or a project. Nightly builds and release
candidates are published by an individual for review before official
release at which time they would be moved to www.apache.org/dist.
The IP address for people.apache.org is 140.211.11.9, so you could
use that instead of people.apache.org to temporarily work around the
DNS problem.
The preview documentation for the extras companion can be browsed at
http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/logging/site/trunk/docs/log4j/
companions/extras/index.html. Basically, extras is a grab bag of
extra functionality for log4j 1.2 releases (tested with log4j 1.2.9,
but likely usable with earlier releases too). It contains features
backported from the log4j 1.3 development, replacements for log4j 1.3
features (LogMF and LogSF for parameterized logging and
RewriteAppender for MapFilter, ReflectionFilter and PropertyFilter).
Any feedback on the release candidate would be appreciated. There
will be another RC before a vote is called for release.
