We've experienced the same issue. We also use the .yyyyMMdd-pattern, and the 
described bug seem to occur if there are no logfiles from yesterday, but only 
older logfiles from three days or more back. That is, for instance on my 
developer computer, if I come back to work on a monday (when my computer have 
been doing nothing on saturday and sunday), this bug happened.
