(1) has already been done <http://logging.apache.org/log4net/release/faq.html#trouble-EventLog> and it doesn't even apply to Vista and newer only (what is new is that you need local admin privs to even check whether an event source exists). I've improved the error logging that is going to happen and closed the issue. Stefan
