Position description



Limited-term appointment positions at Concordia are full-time faculty
positions of between 9.5- and 12‑month duration (the annual salary is
pro-rated in the case of shorter contracts). The incumbent is
responsible for teaching six (in the case of a 9.5-month contract) or
seven three-credit courses per year, and for some administrative and
other service roles within the academic unit. Up to two subsequent
12‑month appointments may be possible, subject to satisfactory job
performance, academic unit need, and budgetary approval.



The Department of Philosophy at Concordia University in Montreal,
Quebec, invites applications for a limited-term appointment in: AOS:
Logic, to teach a course in Deductive Logic (PHIL 214), and AOC:
Metaphysics, to teach Introduction to Metaphysics (PHIL 265). We are
seeking a candidate whose expertise in logic and competence in
metaphysics extends into metaethics, or norms and values, who can also
teach Environmental Ethics (PHIL 236) and Ethics of Biotechnology
(PHIL 498/530/633). The candidate will also have two deliveries of
Problems of Philosophy (PHIL 201), a popular introductory course.
Ability to teach courses in early modern philosophy, rationalism, and
empiricism, is an asset.



Qualifications and assets



Holding this position requires a PhD in Philosophy and sufficient
evidence of being able to effectively teach the courses listed above.
Experience with delivering courses both online and in-person is an
asset.

The Department of Philosophy is a thriving and forward looking
department of active researchers (see our newsfeed) and dedicated
teachers. The research and teaching areas of our 11 full-time faculty
members and several part-time faculty members are together
pluralistic, covering an unusually broad swath of analytic,
continental, historical, and comparative philosophy. Main areas of
focus include philosophy of values, philosophy of the sciences, and
philosophy of human identity and difference. There is a teaching
mentorship program within the department that limited-term appointees
can join. We’re housed in a bright and spacious historical building—a
