For big amounts of money don't go to a bank. Instead, you should go to
those dodgy corner exchange places (around South Ken / Glocester Road
are many) and state how much money you want to change and ask them how
much exactly they will give you. State to them how much the another one
wanted to give you and they will usually top the bid (I never tried
lying to them but in retrospect I wish I had).
