Another thing to be borne in mind if it is important to you is the
availability of certain commercial software on the platform - I work a lot
with Informix stuff and that is just not available for *BSD at the current
time - although they did poll the user community whether a port of the SDk
would be appreciated for BSD sometime last year.
On this (Linux) machine (my laptop) I have an Informix Database Server and
a 4GL compiler - this stuff doesnt run natively on BSD.
Of course if you are looking to work with open source software exclusively
then there it probably comes down to a matter of personal taste - I tend
to prefer Linux anyhow because it has more of the SysV stuff from where I
came in and a lot of people will prefer BSD because thats part of their
tradition - we have a lot of customer facing servers at work running BSD
for instance oh and Solaris BTW :)
