At the Newark meeting we started in on the structure of the company
and came up with a model of
Driver: One who is 100% committed to Iterative Software and driving it
forward.
Navigator: Assisting the drivers, actively involved in the company
through substantial commitments of time and/or money, but not at the
same 100% level as the drivers.
Passenger: Less actively involved in the company than either the
drivers or the navigators, but interested enough to be committing some
time or money.
We decided that shares would be allocated depending on the role taken:
Drivers get 100 shares, Navigators get 50, and passengers get 10.
We also decided that we would be taking on no more drivers except in
exceptional circumstances (and there are a couple of people who
couldn't make it to the meeting for good reasons that we want to talk
to.)
And I, as Managing Director, got deputed to inform the people on the
mailing lists.
If you have a commitment to make to the success of Iterative Software,
let me know (quickly please) the level of your commitment and we'll
get stuff sorted out.
Yes, we *know* it sucks as a metaphor, but it will have to serve.
