When this all happened I was wandering round the swankier parts of Islington
with a bad case of the Mean Reds and had just stumbled on a pub.

It's called the Canonbury Arms, it's about 2 minutes walk from Upper Street
and 3 from Highbury Corner/Highbury and Islington station (and hence my
house). H&I station is on the Victoria Line and about 15 minutes from Oxford
Circus. The number 19 bus takes about 25 minutes from Holborn and 43 takes
about 30 minutes from London Bridge and goes right through Moorgate and the
City. The Northern line stops at Angel, about 15 minutes walk away but Angel
is closed ATM.

It a large ex Georgian House. It has a small but good selection of draught
ales (Summer Lightening), some goodish draught lagers (Hoegaarden and
Staropramen) and a largish (~15-20) selection of foreign beers (including a
nice Belgian raspberry beer). They do cocktails so could probably be persuaded
to do TVRs. They do food - standard pub fare - potato wedges and chips,
burgers, fish and chips and lamb shanks. Kitchen looks quite nice. There was a
good selection of malt whiskys and wines. There's a snooker table and possibly
a darts board.

Toilets are on the ground floor. It's quiet, has a 'no children in the bar'
policy, large garden (about an 50m x 10m) with lots of benches. I was sitting
in it looking at two squirrels run round the huge conker tree chasing each
other like a minature furry Gladiators.

The bar manager said he'd have no problem with 40 Perl Mongers.

I will probably be going there again tonight. I suggest a larger scouting
party at a later date.
