Just chatting to a friend, turns out both he and his partner have changed their profession. One was an Oracle DBA, and his lovely partner was an NT sysadmin. He was still employed, but position looking shaky, and she had already lost her job a while ago.
He is now working as a carpenter, and she is a property manager. Apparently there's a lot of work for a good carpenter, you get flexible hours, your own business, and good pay.
