Well Nauman, Islam is a problem because no doubt we are muslims but not practicing muslims.
On the other hand, I agree with you that equality and rule of law must prevail in a society for its progress and this is what even Islam proposes. The problem is we are trying to prove that Islam or Deen for that matter is a separate issue from society. In my opinion both of them are two sides of one coin, you flip to one side and you are representing a nation and the other, you represent your religion. Having said that, rule of law should remain above all. I think we don't have enough time for trials and errors, we must get to solutions straight. For that we need a fair judiciary, that has no political background and does not accept any political pressure in any case. And they should start settling day to day law and order issues without indulging into that long beurocratic system of decision making that takes years to decide a solution to a simple problem. We really need quick solutions and security for common man to express his point of views and stand against the cruel system.
