Thanks for drawing our attention to the video. Unfortunately the Jang group
-their newspaper and their Geo TV channels - are playing a very negative
role. Always highlighting the darker side of things. Examples:
1. On the day a democratic President was taking oath after almost a decade
of dictatorship the Geo TV was more busy in showing us a handful of
protesters outside the gates of the Presidency.
2. Instead of educating the public about the benefits of Daylight saying
time the Geo TV was interviewing illiterate people talking against it. These
people had not even set their watches thinking that this might bring them
bad luck!
3. At 3 in the night they show Breaking News. The very sound of the music
made one shudder: Has Mush dissolved Parliament? Is Pakistan under attack
from a neighbour? Has Mush suffered a heart attack? No Sir nothing of the
sort; a car coming from Hyderabad to Karachi had skidded on the Super
Highway and 3 persons were injured!
So the video under discussion is no surprise. It is merely consistent. Time
will tell that the Jang group itself has its own agenda. Does anyone
remember the headline in Jang in the 70's "Urdu ka Janaza"? Contrary to the
doomsday pundits Urdu is alive and kicking. Why was the group silent for
almost a decade when not a single watt of electricity was planned to be
generated by the previous dictatorship? They should have highlighted this
every day to let the public know.
We must keep in mind that it is always easy to destroy and difficult to
build. The Democratic government has not been in office long. The 10 years
of detritus needs to be cleaned up before we can see some progress. If as
Hamid Mir says we have lost Waziristan who is to blame. And as Presidents
dont have the time to take up challenges by such groups there is no harm in
throwing up such challenges just to show your importance. Should the word
'Taliban' be written the the foreheads of those who are fighting and dying?
And Sir why should you be 'truly in a state of untrustworthy on our
leaders'? Pakistan is still a viable entity but please give the democratic
forces some time.
