I have recently started watching your above mentioned programme and I must say
that you deserve all the accolades. Today's programme reminded me of the early
70s when I was in the University of Karachi.At that time the students were
polarized as NSF and Islami Jamiat-e-Tulaba and both supported by NAP and
Jamaat-e-Islami respectively. Both these groups were trying to bring in
Socialism and Capitalism of China/Soviet and America respectively. During thier
rallys they were carrying Red or Green flags.It had become a fashion to wear an
ALLAHU AKBAR badge or a red coloured badge. At that period a group of students
of Karachi University led by Saeed Malik, Zainal Abedin, Asif Ahmed came up
with the slogan Student Politics for students only and the flag of the party
was no other than The national Flag of Pakistan. With in three years this
movement became so powerful among the students of Karachi that Pakistan Liberal
Students ( the name of the student party)
was voted to the KUSU (Karachi University Students Union) in 1975 and Jamiat
was toppled after 11 years.
We as Liberals made sure that all the students were united for Pakistan. JTI
(Jamiat-e-Tulabae Islam led by Late Hafiz Taqi cqme to us and lent us his
party's support unconditionally. I being the Chairman of Liberals at that time
had the honor of meeting all the greats of that time. Please take out some time
and study the LIBERAL movement of Karachi University at the most depressing
period of Pakistan History (BREAK UP OF EASTERN WING). I am in USA you can call
me and take wharever information you require. You could invite Sardar Abdul
Rahim or Dr. Qaiser Bengali, Shahzad Mehmood and even Fauzia Wahab and so many
others.
I think what the Liberals did at that time is what needs to be done today, i.e.
UNITE everyone under The Pakistani Flag!!!
