LINUX PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTE
IBM E-BUSINESS CERTIFICATION ACCEPTS LPI CREDENTIAL AS PREREQUISITE
IBM and LPI partner to provide certification path
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 16, 2000
SAN JOSE, CA: The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) today announced
that its Level 1 certification will now be accepted as a technical
prerequisite for IBM's new e-business "Solution Technologist"
certification. Candidates who have now achieved LPI Level 1 may
go on to pursue IBM's e-business certification.
The new "IBM Certified for e-business - Solution Technologist" program
validates the ability of an individual holding it to understand and
articulate e-business issues, strategies and methodologies. To attain
the certification, candidates must pass an exam specific to the program
and also hold an approved technical certification from a list that
includes credentials by both IBM and outside organizations. For Linux,
the IBM program currently recognizes only the LPI certification.
"We are delighted that IBM sees the value of a Linux certification
that is independent of software vendors and training providers," said
Dan York, president of the LPI board of directors, "Many of our
candidates will be in, or going into, positions where they will be using
Linux as a platform for e-commerce. This relationship with IBM provides
a path for those professionals to further develop and validate their
skills. It also provides IBM with the knowledge that candidates will be
coming to their program with a strong knowledge of the Linux operating
system."
LPI's Level 1 certification consists of two exams, named 101 and 102,
which test candidates on basic Linux system and network administration
tasks and concepts. Both exams are available globally through the 2,300
test centers of Virtual University Enterprises (VUE).
"At IBM, we know that Linux plays a critical role in today's world of
e-business," said Scott Handy, director of Linux Solutions Marketing.
"Ensuring our partners have a strong, consistent knowledge of the Linux
operating system before engaging in development and deployment of
e-business solutions based on Linux is critical to us, our partners and our
customers".
