Welcome to the August issue of the LPI News.
We have lots of information for you on the Level 2 Beta exam, (we
need
to get Level 2 published as soon as possible - so please consider
taking this extended L2 beta exam).
We hope to see some of you at the Linux World show in San Francisco
and at the Linux World Frankfurt.
The Linux Professional Institute provides vendor neutral
certification
for individual expertise in Linux.

1. LEVEL 2
It's finally here - we are pleased to tell you that our beta Level 2
is ready and will be available from September 4th at your closest Vue
location; http://www.vue.com/lpi
Please help LPI by taking the Level 2 beta exam.
Thanks to the input of the Linux Community we are able to bring the
Level 2 into production. Our beta Level 2 will be one extended exam
(Beta 200) and will be a 2 1/2 hour exam. This exam will cost $84 US.
The result of this exam will be available within 6 to 8 weeks after
the beta is over.
Objectives are here; http://www.lpi.org/p-L2-obj-pre.html
Once the beta period is over, the exam will again be divided into two
separate exams (LPI-201 and LPI-202) and each will cost $100 US.
If you pass the beta exam, you will receive your Level 2
certification, only if you have taken and passed Level 1.
So if you wish to take L2 first - you must then take L1 - at which
point we will send the certificates covering both L1 and L2.
2.Level 1 Refresh
Our Level One exams were published back in October 2000, and it is
now time to refresh them. Our board member - Tom Peters -
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
is now looking for assistance to complete this job.
Please have a look at the LPI website for info. on what Tom is
looking
for, and where you might assist.

3. Preparing for the Exams
When preparing for any exam it is important to be as relaxed as
possible,
to have had a good nights sleep, and wake refreshed and confident.
LPI exams require the same confidence, and positive attitude - and
armed with that knowledge, a candidate should set out for the Vue
test centre knowing where the centre is in advance, and in plenty
of time - at least 10 minutes early.
http://www.vue.com/lpi
The candidate should know the objectives for each exam thoroughly,
and
during the study time, should have the objectives pasted to the desk,
or in an easily accessible location, to refer to on a regular basis.
Level 1 exam objectives; http://www.lpi.org.c-index.html
Level 2 exam objectives; http://www.lpi.org/p-L2-obj-pre.html
There are many choices for studying for these exams,
LPI does not mandate one preparation method - instead we encourage
choice, and hope all candidates are aware of the different
alternatives.

Web-based testing,
