Oh, just caught the full post ...

This is _not_ accurate. All Linux systems use /etc/localtime,
even _all_ Fedora and Red Hat distros -- period, end-of-story. ;)

What /etc/sysconfig/clock is used for is to store what file
is utilized -- from /usr/share/zoneinfo -- as /etc/localtime,
along with other things (like the UTC clock). It is only read
when you use the Red Hat system-config-clock program.

At boot, Red Hat uses /etc/localtime for dynamic Zoneinfo, just
like Debian, etc...

That's a standard Zoneinfo utility. Fedora and Red Hat systems
can use it to read files as well, along with zic, etc...

Again, what Red Hat does is wrap its larger system-config-*
framework around many clock details _outside_ of Zoneinfo.
For Zoneinfo, /usr/share/zoneinfo and /etc/localtime are used,
period, end-of-story. ;)

The Zoneinfo concepts are 100% applicable to Fedora and Red Hat
systems, just like they are Debian and Ubuntu, etc... per LSB
and FHS. Let's stick with those.

There are many details Zoneinfo doesn't address, that are PC
centric and other non-sense. Again, we can still cover those
things, but don't focus on paths and configuration differences.

Focus on the concepts, commonality and issues -- things that
enterprise Linux administrators actually run into.
