Hi Andy,
It depends on your plans and timing. If you are studying for the exams and
will take them before Apr 1, 2009, you should learn the former ways of
dealing with sound cards.
However, if you are taking the exam after Apr 1 or are writing courseware,
you should be looking at the new objectives that are coming. The URL to them

Also, keep things in perspective. In the new objectives, a lot of the basic
hardware material has been merged into one objective:

And it only has a weighting of two (2). This means that there will only be
two (2) questions on the exam about the objective.
