Hello Every description I found on the internet says /etc/issue.net is used by telnetd
However, I checked out some servers I administrate, and here's what I have found. Both Ubuntu 8.04.2 and Debian Etch machines have the option #Banner /etc/ issue.net in their /etc/ssh/sshd_config files. Yeah it is commented out but it is there. Suse Linux 9.2 and CentOS 5.2 machines got #Banner /some/path Suse doesn't even have the issue.net file. So I don't know what is the exact purpose of it nowadays No man pages either. 2009/2/9 Simone Piccardi <[email protected]> > Hello, > > while doing a revision of my lectures I found that /etc/issue.net is > still mentioned in the exam objectives for LPI (205.4 Notify users on > system-related issues). > > If I remember right this is the file used by telnetd instead of > /etc/issue, but it seems to me that telnetd is not mentioned in the exam > and in any case its use should be discouraged.
