You know I'm Mr. TLDR.  ;)

In my defense ... I put 75-80% of the details as footnotes after my
sign-off (bjs).  That way I made my case why we shouldn't change it in
the first 20-25% ... all while still including the other 75-80% as
"info for future reference" ... in case it does get revisited.  ;)

Yep.

It largely hasn't happened yet because Red Hat -- one of the few
distros using XZ heavily -- uses "vmlinuz" as the kernel image,
_regardless_ of compressor.

But it's something to be aware of.
