I have a definition for devops you might like. It's not the original,
but it's functional for today and everyone I know in the field agrees
with me:
"DevOps is when you arrange the desks so the Devs guys and the Ops guys
are in the same room sitting next to each other, discussing and doing
what needs doing FOR REAL."
Who gets to do what according to knowledge, skill and desire is
completely up to you and it's also dynamic, because you are trusting
your people to co-operate and get the job done.
If you look at it like that, one does being to wonder how on earth you'd
even examine for it, as it's not a real thing it's an abstract idea.
It's not something that IS, it is something you DO. You could of course
examine for all the shiny new tools the cool kids are deciding to use
today, and call it DevOps. But I really think anyone who goes looking
for a certificate for DevOps that people earn has completely missed the
point of what DevOps is all about.
