I have had some difficulties getting lprng/ifhp to work with an epson
stylus 600/external hp jetdirect.

I have tried many many different combinations, read the config stuff and
combed through the lprng list archives and still nada.

I have tried both printing via rfc1179 and appsocket with limited
success.

Here is my printcap:

lp|printer:rm=printer
test:rm=test

lp|printer
        :server
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
        :sh
        :lpd_bounce
        :lp=printer%9100
        :if=/usr/local/lib/filters/ifhp
        :ifhp=model=gs_uniprint,gs_device=stc600p.upp

test
        :server
        :sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P
        :sh
        :lpd_bounce
        :rp=raw:rm=printer
        :if=/usr/local/lib/filters/ifhp
        :ifhp=model=gs_uniprint,gs_device=stc600p.upp

printing to 'test' just gives me the banner page (which I thought should
be suppressed via 'sh').

printing to 'lp' just results in an unprintable job being removed
automagically from the queue.

The jetdirect is extremely old, but does appear to support both
protocols. (I can telnet to both ports anyway.)

I am beginning to wonder if the problem isnt with the jetdirect... as
the following:
nc printer 9100 < /etc/motd

prints the motd, but nc hangs as if something doesnt understand EOF.

While I am new to lprng, I do have some experience with bsd-type
printing, but this is beginning to make me feel like an idiot.

platform: solaris 8
lprng: LPRng-3.6.12
ifhp: ifhp-3.3.16
jetdirect: "jetdirect EX plus"

Anyone with any hints?
