Some time ago I asked this question but there were no helpful replies.
Basically. We are running LPRng version 3.6.19 on True64 Unix. So far so
good.
The setup includes printers (lexmark & hp) plus print servers for both
parallel and serial printers.
1. Occasionally, for a variety of reasons the printserver supported serial
printers go offline. LPRng times out the connection and the result is a
stalled queue eg;
2. We then get a call and check the queue eg; lpq -Pp-unddsp1. This gives a
printer with a stack of jobs listed with the first one showing a status of
stalled.
3. We then do; lpc status lp270 (lp270 being the first printer identifier in
the printcap file) the reason for this is that other alias names do not show
the status correctly
4. We then kill the uid number of the subprocess listed by the lpc status
command. ie; kill -1 2466
The result is the queue goes active and all the jobs print.
I have tried changing the timeout parameter in lpd.conf and resetting
everything but no better.
Do you have any ideas that I should look into.
