While configuring printing from a samba server I found some problems with the -U option of lpr an lprm. I am running version LPRng-3.7.4-28 (RedHat 7.2 version). The problem does not require samba to be reproduce. Basically, assuming the user writing the commands is in the allow_user_setting list then lpr -Utest@that_host testfile produce the expected result of the file submited as if from user test on that_host. But then to remove the job if we try the obvious lprm -Utest@that_host it won't work. Trying lprm -Utest will work if the perm file has a line with ACCEPT SERVICE=M SAMEUSER I quickly looked at the source and basically lprm just sends the whole -U string as the new username and the lpd server just takes it as the new username only. It does not try to parse it to remap the remotehost. Looking at the lprm and lpr code I have a feeling that the remaping should be done in the client but the lprm packet does not seem to allow passing a hostname. I don't know if there is any simple solution. At least it should be documented if it can't be fixed (If it is already mentioned somewhere, I am sorry, I did not find it.)
