Well, I know what printers have worked for me, and I think you could get a lot of input from the members of the lprng list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]). One thing to note is that firmware versions can make a difference, so that info should also be included in the database. Here's a list of printers that I work with: HP Laserjet 5N: Works. This printer doesn't have ps, so pagecounting is is done with PJL. Firmware datecode: 19951225 HP Jetdirect J2550A Jetdirect firmware revision: A.04.08 Tektronix Phaser 560: Works. Don't know anything about firmware revision for this printer, will try to find out... Lexmark Optra 2450: Doesn't work. Will send end-of-job status to soon to ifhp. There's a piece of postscript available that sets the printer into 'enginesync' mode and that's supposed to fix the problem, but it causes the printer to hang when run in duplex mode. Firmware info: Engine 56.50.-24*-s Boot: 10.11-0*- Base: 85.55mr2.L Ethernet 10/100: 010.65472 Note: I've taken the firmware info from the test pages of the printers. They're pretty cryptic and I don't know what lines are relevant.
