Well, I loaded the file into GhostScript and got some stuff BUT I also
got:

%%[ ProductName: AFPL Ghostscript ]%%
%%[Page: 1]%%
%%[LastPage]%%


Printed on STDOUT.  I don't know what effect this will have on the
output or printer or whatever.

Try duplicating this and see what you get out...

Well, I got a flash sheet for U.C. Berkeley Math dept. AND I also got:
