I'm re-posting my original message in the hopes that someone might have some insight into my problem. Perhaps this message never made it to the mailing list?
At any rate, I still can't get LPRng to work. I have been trying everything. Paul On Mon, Aug 19, 2002 at 05:40:16PM -0700, Patrick Powell wrote: > make with no problems. > > Ummm... I generated a printcap file several days ago using the lprng tool. I included this below, but I assume this doesn't really tell us much. I copied my printcap file to another directry, and then removed it from the /etc directory. I then ran make install again. I got the same error message, with one new addition. This time lpd failed to start. No printcap file was generated. (I assume that a printcap file is generated automatically on a mke install?) Here is the old printcap file: # /etc/printcap # # This printer configuration file was created with lprngtool Version 1.3.2 # Any changes made here manually may be lost if lprngtool # is run later on. # # It is NOT advisable to modify this file by hand. To add, modify, or # remove printers, please use 'lprngtool' to avoid corruption. ##LPRNGTOOL## DEVICE filtertype=IFHP ifhp_options=status,sync,pagecount,waitend printerdb_entry=hp6mp printer :filter=/usr/libexec/filters/ifhp :ifhp=model=hp6mp,status,sync,pagecount,waitend :lp=/dev/lp0 :lprngtooloptions=FILTERTYPE="IFHP" IFHP_OPTIONS="status,sync,pagecount,waitend" :PRINTERDB_ENTRY="hp6mp" :mx=0 :rw :sd=/var/spool/lpd/%P :sh Thanks Paul > > > > > error reading information on service lpr: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lpr: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lpr: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lpr: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lprng: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lprng: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lprng: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lprng: No such file or directory > > error reading information on service lprng: No such file or directory > > > > If I issue the command lpr, I get his error message: > > > > Status Information: > > sending job 'root@localhost+986' to printer@localhost > > connecting to 'localhost', attempt 1 > > connected to 'localhost' > > requesting printer printer@localhost > > job 'root@localhost+986' transfer to printer@localhost failed > > error 'NONZERO RFC1179 ERROR CODE FROM SERVER' with ack 'ACK_FAIL' > > sending str '^Bprinter' to printer@localhost > > error msg: 'spool queue for 'printer' does not exist on server >localhost.localdomain' > > error msg: ' non-existent printer or you need to run 'checkpc -f'' > > > > If I run checkpc -f, I get no error messages, and if I check in /var/, > > then I find the folder for my printer. > > > > I am running Mandrake 8.1.
