We had a 755cm which may have similar issues. We ended up:
Using a very simple, straight through, printcap entry
Using the latest HP drivers for Windows and Mac.
Some plotters, the 755cm among them, come in
TWO revisions which have slightly different
behaviours but it isn't always obvious what revision
plotter you have. You may need different
drivers for the different revisions.
The line in the following printcap starting with
"#" is a reference to using netcat ("nc") to print a postscript
file through the 9100 port. Netcat is a good thing
to try when dealing with network printer problems since, if
it doesn't work with netcat, there is either a printer
or a network problem.
Here's what we used for the 755cm (but note
we didn't need to do accounting):
