Hi all, I just came across this submission on the OpenLDAP ITS: http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi/Incoming?id=7348;selectid=7348
Guillaume Rousse (in copy of this email) has submitted the check_password module currently hosted by LTB to the OpenLDAP Project. However, Kurt Zeilenga, the OpenLDAP Foundation's Director, feels that Guillaume does not have the authority to submit this code and donate the Intellectual Property to the OpenLDAP Foundation, since Guillaume is not officially affiliated with the LTB Project, and the LTB Project currently maintains this code.
As a member both of the OpenLDAP Projet and the LTB Project, I would like to discuss how this issue can be resolved with all involved parties.
I feel that it is not LTB's role to withhold code that would be better off in the OpenLDAP Project, so long as it only useful to that project (this is the case here, the check_password code has no use without OpenLDAP IIRC). The LTB Project was not set up, and is not destined, as far as I know, with the intent to compete with OpenLDAP, but instead to provide extra tools and ease the work of users of any LDAP software, OpenLDAP included.
If everyone here is in agreement with that, I think that a representative of the LTB Project (Clément, as Project Leader, or myself if Clément would prefer) should post to the OpenLDAP ITS giving authorization to donate the IP to the OpenLDAP Project, and offering to remove the code from LTB, and continue maintenance within the OpenLDAP Project.
What are others thoughts on this subject? Jonathan _______________________________________________ ltb-dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ltb-project.org/listinfo/ltb-dev
