Our decision to use GNOME boiled down to these issues: 1. GNOME is a bit "glossier" and less intimidating for users than KDE. Our user base ranges from educated users to bonehead users. All of them liked GNOME over KDE. 2. Although KDE is getting better, it seems to be taking a performance hit with each new release. Konqueror is slow and is a resource hog. Launching applications takes longer. Since we are running remote apps, performance was a major issue. I didn't actually time each, but KDE took at least twice as long to load than GNOME. Konqueror was 3 to 4 times longer to load than Mozilla. 3. Koffice, although a valiant attempt at an office suite, is still in it's infancy and doesn't bring any real value to the K desktop. Good luck with your decision.
