I have a test network configured with LTSP 2.09pre3. The test network
consists of an LTSP client and two servers, one for DHCP and DNS, the other
for TFTP and NFS. I wanted 2 separate servers to mirror the production
configuration. Everything works wonderfully on the test network. When i
installed the servers on the test network i took detailed notes of every
step so i could replicate the process onto the production servers. I
repeated the install process on my production TFTP/NFS server and gave the
necessary DHCP and DNS information to the network administrator to be added
to the campus servers. But things don't quite work. When i boot the client
it crashes at one of three or four places in the boot process. Below i have
transcribed the final screen when the crash occurs for three of the
different variations. I did not include the stack trace data because it
would be a pain to transcribe all the numbers, but if it would help figure
out what the problem is, i will happily do so upon request. I have
separated each of the three dumps by a string of ten octothorpes:

Possible reasons include:

       1) NFS services may not be running on the
server
       2) Workstation IP does not map to a hostname, either

 in /etc/hosts, or in DNS
       3) Wrong address for NFS server in the
DHCP config file
       4) Wrong pathname for root directory in the DHCP
config file

Any ideas what could be wrong? The first two messages i have no clue
about. The third is more informative but doesn't make sense. Looks to me
like the client is having trouble resolving backup.lib.drake.edu, which is
the name of the tftp and nfs boot server. But i know that name resolves
just fine so it doesn't make sense to me that it would have a problem. The
line "10.1.0.25: No such file or directory" puzzles me since 10.1.0.25 is
our name server. I am reasonably confident that NFS is working correctly on
the server. All of this still doesn't explain why it sometimes dies at the
first 2 locations, though.
