I'm struggling a bit with something that might be a bit exotic, but I'll ask
for help here anyway, lots of good advice always. I'm setting up an LTSP
server in a school with an existing NT4 file/print server. To let the
students see the same home directories I'm planning to smbmount these on the
Linux/LTSP box from the NT box, using pam_mount to do it when the user logs
in. I've tested this using a Samba box as a simulated NT file server. But
I've got a problem with file locking in Samba (I think, but may be mistaken):

Locked files:
Pid DenyMode R/W Oplock Name
--------------------------------------------------
29230 DENY_NONE RDWR NONE /home/xuser/.xsession-errors

Contents of the .xsession-errors file:

XIM DEBUG: XIM DEBUG:

Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir

I've tried to play around with oplocks and share modes in Samba, but had no
luck in removing the lock problem. I don't know if this is the real problem,
or the other problems reported in .xsession-errors are.

None of this crops up when NFS-mounting the home directories. Eventually I
hope to bring the around to replacing the NT box with a Samba alternative.

Any thoughts very welcome.
